Stop Whining And Get A Real Cause

Today while trudging through the many status updates via Facebook I came across one from the fiancee of a Marine.  Since it is one of those that says *please re-post if you support our troops* I don’t feel bad re-posting it here… It reads as follows:

President Obama has proposed a 1.4% pay increase for active duty military in 2011. This is THE LOWEST SINCE 1973! Nice to know that during a time of rampant inflation, while war is fought in 2 theatres, our men and women in uniform get A LOWER PAY INCREASE THAN WELFARE RECIPIENTS!!! Please repost if you support our troops.

The average American has a median income of around 46,000 per year… In the military they are generally paid on a bi-monthly schedule on a scale that is viewable on this handy sight…

As they progress in years of service, obviously their pay rates increase. An example would be E-7 (just under two years of service) can potentially make 62,448!  Now the funny thing is my Dad who happens to be in his late fifties and is still working a job he has been at for eons with UPS, does not even make that much money… And that is only at under two years of service in the military! May I also say that that is a base pay…it does not take into account housing, food, marriage etc.

Now, you may be wondering why I really felt the need to write this post.  The reason being is that people are all over Obama because this is the lowest pay raise since 1973 and to them, I would just like to say… QUIT YOUR WHINING!  There are way more serious issues that need to be dealt with.  Like the fact that the LGBT minority still does not have equal rights (in America where we are supposed to be free) Also that bigotry and ignorance still run rampant.  Screw inflation, there are people out there making less than the military and they are pulling through.

So therefore I would just like to say to those that are whining about the military ONLY getting a 1.4% pay increase:

So what?! So what, you don’t get your extra percentage in pay that you are used to… some of us don’t even have basic rights to share benefits with families or even get married. Quit your whining and get a real cause.
