Big Gay Blog

I am just your average, American, Lesbian, Susie Homemaker…

I just had to get this off my chest because I find it a bit funny and kind of interesting. I have a bit of a dirty little secret, kind of an addiction really… I love cooking blogs.

I used to love cooking in junior high and high school, when I had parents and lots of brothers who would try out my concoctions…When I got to college though my love of cooking took a backseat to fast food simplicity, partying, shopping, term papers and late night sewing projects.  The hardest thing I ever prepared those couple of years was a box of mac&cheese maybe some spaghetti if I was feeling adventurous.

These days C and I lead a fairly mellow life (still in school) but a great deal more relaxed.  We opted to go for a more vegetarian/healthy route for a number of reasons.  Since so much of todays quick-fix food has a ridiculous number of preservatives and other various nasties in it, I started cooking again.  Now, I have to say that I realized once again how much I love cooking! I love cooking, baking and eating… I think it is great that with some simple ingredients and some time you have a complex flavorful dish that didn’t just come out of the microwave or the freezer section and meijer!

Which leads me to my addiction.  Being without television (no cooking channel for me!) I enjoy surfing around looking for interesting cooking blogs to try out.  It can sometimes be difficult to dream up good recipies and searching for them via search engine is a pain because there is just isn’t room for interaction! Cooking blogs just happened to be the perfect answer for me. I have found a couple that I enjoy following and have tried recipies from.  It is nice to hear the back story behind the recipe and to read through the little tips from commenters.  Sometimes I will follow the recipes to exactly and sometimes I will tweak them a little due to C and I’s personal tastes.  There are just so many fun options!

I dunno maybe I am just blog crazy, I really enjoy home decorating on a budget blogs too…I really do feel like the lesbian version of a Susie Homemaker…The cooking and baking and random crafty projects.  I positively love it! Some of my friends even agree with my assesment that I am the lesbian equivilent of Paula Dean…Gotta love butter!!!! ❤  So much for being healthy I guess…

I guess I just want to know if there are other lesbian susie homeakers out there…I feel like there is a stigma attached to the susie homemaker personality in general. Like it is some bad thing in todays society what with feminism and woman going to the work force,  being a susie homemaker has been turned into a  thing that invokes disdain or pity, something people look down on because it doesn’t seem like the little susie homemakers “accomplish” enough.  Which is something that I happen to disagree with, from a personal standpoint I feel like I accomplish alot.  Even though I hold on to feminist beliefs I still think the susie homemaker’s of the world are wonderful.

I guess I will quit blabbering on and get to class…I would really like some feedback on this.  I don’t feel like I have said it all and would really like to know what others think.-Thanks1 ❤

For me, I always hated cooking in high school, I took foods class senior year because my mom made some kind of deal with me, if I would take it and learn how to cook a little. I started finding i enjoyed it while i lived over seas for a summer, in my own apartment, and had to cook for myself. When you are eating on a vegetarian diet, you have to get into food preparation. I love food blogs as well, because there are so many greater options than trying to figure things out on my own, and I am very limitted with my cooking brain.
I think it is fabulous that you spend so much focus on food blogs. Go for it.
